Walking.

I took some snaps on my walk to work Thursday morning. The archives are only about 20 minutes from my apartment, and it's finally light enough in the mornings for me to walk. The road runs right alongside the river, which is getting bigger by the day as the snow melts in the Valley. The wildflowers are just starting to bloom, and I've been told that by April the hillside will be covered with them.

While I'm fully aware that I have one of the most spectacular commutes in the world, my morning walks always make me ache for Chicago a little. I miss moving through the city in that blissful state of self-contained interaction with my surroundings. I've accepted a job here for the summer, helping with the oral history project. Even though I will be sad to miss summer in Chicago, it feels so good to finally be doing work I believe in, and if that means delaying the time when I can stroll through the city again, it's worth it.

Ah ha! Now I will come to visit you in the summer when I can't handle the furnace any more.
